A Note to Non-North American Knitters

I know that not everyone has access to Knit Picks yarn. I'm going to start compiling a list of possible yarn substitutions for Sheldon and post it here in the future, so if you have a suggestion, I'm all ears. Meanwhile, the wonderful Nicola Hickson of London has test knit Sheldon in Sirdar Snuggly Baby DK, and he came out fabulously. She used 4mm. needles and got a tension of 22sts and 28 rows over 10 cm, 1 ball each of colors 350 and 242. Thanks to Nic for test knitting and for sending in this great photo!

Hi Ruth
It was my pleasure, I thoroughly enjoyed knitting Sheldon's girlfriend, Michelle! The photo of the American Sheldons altogether is lovely.
Michelle's now packaged up for my friend's daughter. Don't worry, there are air holes in the box so she can still breath!

Came here from knitty and wanted to say how cute the pattern is - definitely the highlight of the issue!! Now I just need to order some yarn and start knitting some Sheldons for Christmas. What a great idea and congrats on your first pattern.

Sheldon is very cute. I have many moms-to-be to knit for, and I'm sure to add this one to my "TO KNIT" list.

Hi Ruth,
I just saw your pattern on Knitty! When I was a little girl, I had a stuffed toy turtle that I named--you guessed it--Sheldon! Thanks for writing such a cute pattern and bringing back some fond childhood memories.

Everyone and her sister is knitting Sheldon, apparantly, and I am looking forward to doing the same - once for my baby, and once for my sister's (both due next spring).

Yarn substitutions would be very welcome though, as my only source for "shine" is on-line, and the thought of paying shipping charges for two balls of yarn makes me flinch.
